29 Dec 1951, Khartoum, Sudan --- Sudan in ferment. A Member of Parliament speaking during a meeting of the Legislative Assembly in Khartoum, 1951. <Picture Post> journalist Kenneth Allsop reports on the tide of nationalism which is sweeping across the Sudan. The Condominium remains with the British impassively ruling despite the tension in Egypt. Sociologically as well as geographically the Sudan splits into distinct halves: the ardently progressive North and the savage South. The three main political parties in the Sudan are Umma, sponsored by Sir Sayed el Mahdi Pasha, the National Front Party and Ashigga.
